KMPlayer has evolved over the past few years, from a video player to a leading source for content discovery. The app's record-breaking viewership and the use of its flagship media is most visible on the gaming front, with a successful casting of Season 3 of the League of Legends World Championship. Alongside other forays into e-sports like GOM and Starcraft 2: Hearts of the Swarm, KMPlayer has established strong viewership that's created a whole new layer of interaction beyond its former identity as a standalone video player.
Unobtrusive layout: The main tools for video playback stay out of the way. Dark colors and a pop-out settings menu give users clean, uninterrupted access to features like subtitle management, brightness/contrast adjustments, and frame captures.
Full video codec support: Similar to video players like VLC and GOM, KMPlayer is a universal media player that can tackle just about any format you throw at it.
Display-heavy: KMPlayer is not a standalone video player by any means, and it encourages content discovery via partnerships with some third-party apps. The result is a preview-heavy player that throws ads and links at you at every chance it gets, making the experience like watching a windowed video service that irks with every disruption.
Bundled apps: Outfox.tv, a bundled TV widget, does more harm than good, despite its diverse library of content. Outfox.tv, in particular, has no visible method of removal or closure, outside of adding and removing via the control panel.
KMPlayer remains a solid video player, but it's now a specialized player aiming for a particular audience. Some viewers will see its offerings as premium content; others will find the bundling a distraction or a nuisance. So, while the video player may have universal support and something for everyone, we cannot recommend it for anyoe seeking just a basic video player.
KMPlayer is all in one media player, covering various formats such as VCD, DVD, AVI, MKV, Ogg Theora, OGM, 3GP, MPEG-1/2/4, WMV, RealMedia, QuickTime. It has an extra feature to play Incomplete/Damaged AVI file, Locked Media Files while downloading or sharing, Compressed Audio Album (zip, rar) and so on. It also supports WIDI, 3D, 4K and handles a wide range of subtitles and allows you to capture audio, video, and screenshots in many ways. The player provides both internal and external filters with a fully controlled environment without grappling with DirectShow merit system. The player can set multifarious audio and video effects, control playback speed and octave, select parts of a video as favorites, do a powerful A-B repeat, remap the keys of remote interface for HTPC including overlay screen controls, change a skin dynamically depending on a media type playing, and many more.
